The Biden Infrastructure Plan – A $300 Billion Stimulus, A $3 Trillion Ten Year Initiative, Or Both?

The U.S. needs an immediate infrastructure stimulus of roughly $300 billion, and we need a long-term transformational infrastructure initiative on the order of $3 trillion. President-elect Biden’s Infrastructure Plan, released yesterday, looks at step changes in transportation, energy, water and digital policy. The focus is on making people’s lives better – so how do we bring people across the country into the debate? This would be difficult if Covid weren’t raging, if our politics weren’t poisoned, if global warming hadn’t transformed our priorities, and if states didn’t face $225 billion in budget shortfalls. So, is it possible for the White House, Congress, the States – and the rest of us – to come together? Yes, and let me suggest how we can do this.
