Act Now to Make Homes More Affordable

Add your name. Support measures that will increase the number of available homes.

Low housing supply coupled with rising demand and mortgage rates have caused home prices to skyrocket, putting the dream of homeownership out of reach for many Americans. The American Property Owners Alliance is championing bipartisan solutions to increase the number of available homes and improve affordability. Add your name to urge Congress to prioritize the following solutions:

  • Provide grants to state and local governments to enact pro-housing policies
  • Create tax credits to convert unused office buildings into residential and mixed-use properties
  • Create tax incentives to build and rehabilitate homes for low- and moderate-income homeowners

The federal government plays a critical role in addressing the housing crisis, and it’s time for them to act.

What the Numbers Say

Homeownership remains one of the best wealth-building opportunities for Americans, but data shows this opportunity is out of reach for many.

There is a shortage of approximately 6 million homes in America due to years of underbuilding and underinvestment in housing.1

Home prices have risen nearly 30% since 2019 and there are only around 1 million homes available now, compared to the near 4 million homes available in 2007.2

The majority of renters (61%) cannot afford to buy a home in their city.3
