Unlocking Opportunity for America’s Property Owners

The American Property Owners Alliance Unlocks potential, opportunity and the American dream of homeownership for individuals and families across the country.

Before a homeowner unlocks the door to their new home, the right policies and programs need to be in place. At the American Property Owners Alliance, we work with elected officials and community stakeholders to promote housing access, protect property rights and build strong communities.

“A family’s home represents safety, security and prosperity and we believe everyone deserves the chance to achieve their American Dream. Our work takes us from Washington, DC to communities across the country to build relationships and share the stories of homeowners who plan, save and succeed in owning a home.”

Too many aspiring homeowners are shut out due to rising costs and limited access to financial support.

First-time buyers now make up only 24% of the market, the lowest share since tracking began in 1981. This stark decline signals increasing barriers for families to break into homeownership.

We think about homeowners and potential homeowners in every stage of life, from first time buyers to those looking to buy a “forever home” or pass on their home to the next generation. We share research and analysis with elected officials and community stakeholders to educate and inform about how best to address challenges and unlock opportunity in today’s housing market.

The median age of a first-time homebuyer has climbed to 38. Many Americans are being forced to wait longer to afford a home—delaying financial stability and family goals.

79% of buyers still believe purchasing a home is a good investment. Even with costs rising in some parts of the country, the dream of homeownership remains a powerful goal for American families.
